Tapinoma sessile

One evening in June I was walking along a dirt road near the East Rim Overlook on the Kaibab Plateau in Northern Arizona. This was on the North Kaibab Ranger District of the Kaibab National Forest, at about 7500-8000 feet in elevation. I happened to notice what looked for all the world like a pitcher plant on a young poplar leaf. The 'pitcher' was formed by a misshapen poplar leaf - and periodically, ants would peer out from the inside of the pitcher.
